Mo Wilks interviewed co-founder Lisa Simmons about in the Roxbury International Film Festival (aka RoxFilm) in Boston, MA, which runs from June 18th through July 2nd. Lisa, who is an @EmersonCollege alum, discussed her background as an actor, film documentarian, and event curator. Lisa Simmons is RoxFilm’s Artistic/Executive Director. She along with her sister Alison Simmons the Co-Director/Programmer have curated films for Boston audiences for nearly 30 years. RoxFilm festival’s mission – now in it’s 28th year – celebrates the work of filmmakers of color. The festival seeks to support diverse filmmakers by providing a platform for them to share their visions, while at the same time offering audiences the chance to witness stories and voices that are frequently overlooked in mainstream media.
