Skippy White’s Big Show is a historically can’t-miss event!
The names of WILD and Skippy White have been intertwined for decades. Both are a part of the Boston media and music landscape for over 60 years. Skippy’s earliest radio days date back to 1961 during the early years of newborn station WILD. WILD was created September 5, 1957, and the price tag for it then was $200,000.
WILD was active from 1957 thru 2006, almost 60 years an AM station in Boston played and was a huge part of the news and entertainment Bostonians experienced. According to bostonradio.org, the station was playing some jazz, rhythm & blues, and soul music, and featured Black DJs in the fall of 1961. WILD was the only station in Boston programming that catered to the Black community. Notable WILD DJs included a who’s who in Boston radio, and many numerous alums of Emerson and WERS.
Our guest is saluting WILD’s legacy as well as putting on an epic R&B Soul revue at Dorchester’s historic Strand Theatre. Welcome, no stranger to the mic, Skippy White. Please enjoy the our interview below or click here.
